Making scallops at home is incredibly simple. The trick to getting your scallops perfectly golden brown is making sure they are dry and have a tiny bit of flour sprinkled over them. This will allow for a beautiful crust to form. Once the scallops are done, serve them immediately.

Ingredients Method

  • ½ pound sea scallops

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

  • 1 tablespoon butter

  • 1 tablespoon flour, for dredging

  • Salt and pepper, for seasoning

1. Pat scallops dry with a paper towel. Season scallops with salt, pepper and dust them lightly with flour.

2. Heat a saute pan over medium-high heat with olive oil and butter. Once hot, add your scallops 4-5 at a time being careful not to crowd the pan. If you crowd the pan with too many scallops then steaming will occur and you won’t get that beautiful golden brown crust. Sear scallops for 3-4 minutes on one side then flip over and cook for 3 minutes on the other side. Transfer cooked scallops to a warm plate.

3. Repeat with remaining scallops.
